Sea Salt
Aquarium salt is the basis for preparing stable and safe water in reef and fish-only tanks. Mixed with reverse osmosis water, it allows you to achieve the correct salinity (e.g., 35‰ / SG ~1.025 at 25 °C) and balanced parameters.

How to mix: use reverse osmosis water at 24–25 °C, a heater, and a powerhead. Add the salt gradually until the desired salinity is reached (approximately ~33–38 g/L depending on the brand). Let it circulate for 2–24 hours until the water is clear and stable.
Essential checks: calibrate the refractometer with a 35‰ solution, measure at 25 °C, check and correct with small additions of salt or reverse osmosis water. For high-category salts specific to more demanding animals, also test Ca/Mg/KH to align them with your management.
Good practices: NEVER add salt directly to an inhabited tank; always prepare it in a separate container. Store the bucket in a dry place, sealing it well to prevent moisture/clumps. For replenishing evaporated water, use only reverse osmosis water (not saltwater).
Tip: choose the salt based on your reef's consumption (standard for routine, elevated for demanding SPS). Always prepare the mixture the day before, with a pump and heater, and match the temperature and salinity with those of the tank before the water change.
