Skimmers
Protein skimmers remove proteins and organic compounds before they turn into nitrates and phosphates, keeping marine water more stable, clear, and oxygenated in coral reef and fish-only tanks.

How to choose (briefly): size for actual volume and organic load; consider air flow rate (L/h), footprint in sump and height, operating water level (cm), pump type (AC/DC).
Installation & adjustments: keep sump level constant (preferably with automatic top-off), set the output valve for dry foam (more concentrated) or wet foam (faster). Break-in period 3–7 days: fluctuations are normal.
Types: in-sump (quietest/most efficient), hang-on for tanks without sumps, models with internal or external pumps.
Use with chemicals: during bacteria/medications the skimmer may "go crazy" (over-foam): reduce or turn off for a few hours and increase oxygenation. At the end of treatment, add activated carbon. With carbon source dosing, skimming increases (this is normal).
Maintenance: clean cup and neck 1–2 times/week; every 1–3 months disassemble pump and impeller (soak in water + vinegar), check air/venturi tubes and silencer. Lubricate gaskets with suitable products (no random oils).
Safety note: avoid electrolysis devices in marine aquariums; UV-C should be turned off during bacteria/medications (general technical department rule).
Tip: choose the skimmer based on the actual load (better a "comfortable" model than one at its limit), maintain stable water levels, and clean the neck regularly: consistent performance, controlled nutrients, and fewer algae problems.
