Aquarium rocks give structure to the setup, create shelters and surfaces useful for bacterial colonization, enhancing the tank's aesthetics.

For freshwater aquariums, you'll find scenic rocks for aquascaping (e.g., dragon stone/ohko, seiryu, lava, slate) ideal for natural layouts and thematic biotopes. For marine aquariums, reef rocks (natural or synthetic aragonite) are available, designed for solid structures rich in crevices.

Rocks also affect chemistry: some are calcareous and can raise KH/pH (useful in marine or alkaline freshwater), while others are inert and do not alter the values. Choose based on your tank and the desired setup style.

Tip: Before use, rinse the rocks and check if they are calcareous (acid drop: effervescence = carbonate release); this way, you can choose the most suitable material for your values.
