Anti-algae treatments for marine aquariums help control green filamentous algae (Chlorophyta), green films, diatoms (Bacillariophyta), cyanobacteria (Cyanobacteria), and dinoflagellates (Dinoflagellata) in reef and fish-only tanks. Reef-safe formulations allow for targeted interventions without harming invertebrates and corals.

Types: liquid solutions for in-tank treatment; gel/spot for local application on rocks and decor; beneficial bacteria (competitive strains) to improve biological stability. As a non-chemical support, a UV-C sterilizer is useful (see notes below).

Good practices during the cycle: respect the doses per liter, increase oxygenation, remove carbon/resins and turn off UV/ozone for the time indicated on the label; at the end, perform a water change and reinstall filter media. Avoid overdosing on sensitive corals and invertebrates.

Prevention and stability: maintain nitrates (NO3) and phosphates (PO4) not at zero but stable, use reverse osmosis water for water changes, ensure proper circulation and photoperiod, and manually remove large masses. Useful additions: efficient protein skimmer, refugium with macroalgae (e.g., Chaetomorpha), anti-PO4 resins when necessary.

Device note: in marine water, avoid electrolysis devices (they can generate dangerous oxidizers). The UV-C sterilizer is a valuable support: turn off the UV while dosing anti-algae or bacteria and turn it back on at the end of the treatment in maintenance mode to control suspended forms.

Tip: combine mechanical removal + targeted treatment; then use the UV-C for 3–5 days in maintenance mode and restore carbon/resins. Keep a log of NO₃/PO₄: consistency reduces recurrence more than any spot intervention.
