Mainline Clones have been designed to give you a durable hookbait that can be fished over a bed of particles and will match both in terms of colour and flavour.
The main purpose of the Clones is as the name suggests to 'clone' whatever particle or spod mix you are putting out and replicate this into a 'match the hatch' hookbait that is far more practical to use than the particle itself. Especially as some particle baits are too small or too soft to actually use on your rigs, and certainly if you want to be sure your hookbait is still on the hair and performing as it should for prolonged periods of time - baits such as sweetcorn for example.
Clones are available in four different types/flavours, in 13mm Pop-Ups or 10mm x 14mm Wafters, and although primarily designed to be used over particles, they have also proven to be highly effective in all fishing situations during testing.
Nutty Hemp:
Hemp is one of the greatest fish attractors, and carp love to eat this oily seed, to the point that when they are on your bait, you can see the oil slicks hitting the surface! Hemp also has visual appeal, as this glossy dark brown/black seed stands out against the lakebed due to the white flecks that result from the seed splitting and beginning to germinate. To imitate this, not just in flavour but also in appearance, the Clones Hemp Pop-Ups and Wafters are a two-tone dark black and slightly off-white colour.
Maple:
Maple peas are a bait that has largely been forgotten about, but they have always been highly effective, and carp love these sweet, dark brown particles, which give off an attractive cloud once cooked to a soft state and ooze flavour. The Clones Maple Pop-Ups and Wafters are a brown colour with that lovely, unmistakable maple flavour.
Sweetcorn:
Sweetcorn has been around as a carp bait since the 1970s and has played a part in catching countless carp over the years, and even now it is still one of the most effective carp baits around - recently seeing a resurgence in popularity. The Clones Sweetcorn Pop-Ups and Wafters are bright yellow in colour and have a delightful corn flavour/smell. These are truly a great hookbait to fish over golden grain.
Tiger Nuts:
There is no denying that carp love tiger nuts! Their crunchy and sticky sugars are produced once they are prepared, and this bait has a unique nutty taste. The Clones Tiger Nut Pop-Ups and Wafters are an off-white colour with darker flecks and taste just like tiger nuts. Perfect for fishing over whole and crushed nuts (like the Power Particle Nut Crush) or over a bed of bait if a tiger nut ban needs to be avoided.
