"I am going into my 14th year at Korda. It’s impossible not to say that I’ve seen some amazing products during that time. But this is without doubt the most exciting” – Ali Hamidi

“As an angler, product developer and Korda’s managing director, I can’t tell you how proud I am of this product. It will bring a real benefit to every angler who uses them.” – Damian Clark

“I honestly believe this isn’t just a step forward in carp hooks, but a step forward in hook technology in general.” – Tom Dove

A growing band of carp anglers have discovered the benefits of sharpening their hooks, creating a truly exceptional point. Both underwater footage and observations at various venues around the world have demonstrated that an ultra-sharp hook gives you a greater chance of hooking wary, big fish.

Many anglers have been sharpening their own hooks for a number of years. They did so because hooks weren’t sharp enough, but this has changed recently. The chemically sharpened hooks that are produced nowadays are already a huge improvement. But even these could be improved upon with hand sharpening, by making the point slimmer. This knack, which has to be learned, gives a huge advantage over other anglers, and certainly helps to convert more bites into hooked fish. Anglers like Darrell Peck, Danny Fairbrass and Elliot Grey have ultra-sharp hooks amongst their armoury, and the results speak for themselves.

Up until recently, the only way to create super-sharp hook points was by hand. This is a knack that takes a long time to learn and to get right. It was something that we at Korda’s product development department thought we needed to look at. Getting you the sharpest hooks became a big project. Even though we worked on getting a hook sharpened post-production, it took three years to get everything right and to create the Kamakura.

Kamakuras are sharpened post-production to a zero tolerance. We produce hooks that you can’t even make by hand. When you open the packet you will also notice two different things. The first is the quality of the product. Every single hook sold has the same ridiculous sharpness and is ready to be used. Quality is key, we are proud to have achieved that every hook is identical to the others.

The second is a waxy coating on the sharp point of the hook. Thanks to this unique way of covering them we make sure that they remain in the best possible condition until you want to use them. Just before you cast you will only have to remove it and you will fish with the sharpest hook you can imagine.

The Kamakura range will exist alongside the original range of the same hooks. In mid-September of 2018, we will start by releasing the Krank and Widegape pattern in the sharpened version. They will be available in sizes 4, 6 and 8 with or without barbs. In 2019, Choddy and Kurv Shank hooks will follow.
