I never thought I would write these words so soon after the last time. After the results obtained during the last fishing trip, the desire to verify the validity of my theory was very strong.
Work commitments made me hesitate a bit, but a phone call with Gerardo was enough to convince me to make some time for fishing.
Just one night though, nothing more.
Saturday morning at dawn, we're at the lake, we load the boat and set off, same position, as the spots are already on the GPS, we moor, bait and prepare the hooks... the usual 5/6 hours pass again, then the hustle and bustle of runs begins. All medium-small carp, we unhook them and release them directly from the dinghy, but the activity is significant and we remain confident. At 3 am, the first notable run, always in the same spot, always among the weeds, Gerardo catches a beautiful queen. Sleep is lost, we discuss strategies, coincidences, what we perceive from the various bites... then at 4 am a hit, a rod is gone, it's jammed with the reel against the indicator, but no line is coming out, I start reeling anyway hoping to feel life on the other end. There's something! I feel it moving, probably the weeds are limiting its movements. We go out in the dinghy and find ourselves with a meadow next to the line, we exchange the rod several times and take turns trying to free it from all that grass. As soon as the line is free, I feel that the size is different from the other fish, but I don't delude myself, it's just a more powerful fish, I think. Finally, it's in the landing net, but I don't see it until we're back in the boat.
When I see it, I understand why it was pulling so differently, but I still underestimate it, when on the scales we realize that it crosses the fateful threshold of 20 kg, happiness, mixed with disbelief, explodes. The strategy has paid off by differentiating us in where to look for carp, we managed to catch one of the most cunning and probably largest in the lake. We put it in the sack, wait a few hours to take the ritual photo also because I want both of us to be immortalized together with the fish, it doesn't matter who moved more grass, who fought it longer or who put it in the net, we realized a dream together that we have been carrying for years and this catch repays us for everything and therefore belongs to both of us. We wait for our friend and Imperial team member Stefano, who rushes to take a couple of photos and some videos for us, we toast to the catch and go home. Hoping it's not the last one!!!
