Shimano Spheros SW 8000 HG A - Saltwater Spinning Reel

The Spheros SW offers the right balance between technology and price. Capable of handling inshore spinning excellently and occasional offshore fishing, with HAGANE Gearing and a body built to tackle any challenge, the Spheros also features Shimano's X-Protect protection to ensure its longevity.

Although the Spheros SW has an impressive range of features and technology, and will serve you well in the most demanding situations, it is not a budget alternative to a Stella or a Twin Power. For inshore work and occasional blue water fishing, it is a great low-cost option, but for continuous extreme fishing, for massive tuna, GT, sea bass, or sharks, you will get better performance from one of the more expensive models. That said, for anglers who are often traveling or on vacation and want to create their tropical setup, the larger sizes are an ideal choice with an excellent value for money.

The Spheros is a practical reel that goes far beyond its price. With an HAGANE aluminum body, this is a very durable reel. The HAGANE Gear, X-SHIP combination is also enhanced with InfinityDrive to provide plenty of torque and starting power. It has X-Protect water protection (IPX8) to keep water out of the important moving parts. However, the drag does not have the same power as its more expensive siblings, and there are a few fewer ball bearings positioned around the construction. That said, Spheros is a great choice backed by Shimano's reputation for high quality.
